At the start of the year many of us resolve to make changes to our lives and it’s a great opportunity to do so. The start of the year brings extra support to your journey because so many others in the community are making similar changes in their lives.

Being positive will help you to succeed and will increase your resilience and ability to weather whatever life puts in your path.  Research has found that people with positive self-perceptions have better health and tend to live up to 7.5 years longer.

Every morning try to get into the habit of thinking of three things that you are grateful for. You can even write them down if you like. It will help you to see all the good that you have in your life.

Take care of your physical health. Get more exercise, eat healthier foods and you will feel better about yourself. Not only because physical activity improves emotions by increasing brain concentrations of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine  – but also because you are showing respect to your body.

When you are talking to yourself – either in your head or out loud – try not to criticise yourself. Noticing when you criticise yourself is the first step in stopping that habit.

Try something new in 2024, expand your horizons and take on new challenges.
