Benefits of Drinking Water

The first topic I would like to address is water. Why drink water?

You need to drink 1.5 litres of water a day. If you drink the right amount of water, you will feel mental clarity and a lot more energy. Water helps to dilute toxins in your blood. This elimination of your body’s toxins happens via the kidneys and water supports our kidney function. Herbal teas are a good way to get your daily intake. Avoid caffeine it is a diuretic – that means that it causes water loss.

The one and a half litres of water is the minimum you should consume, in hot weather or after exercise you need to drink a lot more to replace what you loose in sweat. It is important to keep our bodies hydrated because our bodies reabsorb toxins into the body from our bowel.

Be careful though, one should not over drink as this can lead to over-hydration and too much water can tax the kidneys.

  • You should drink when you get up because urine has its highest toxins then, water dilutes these toxins down.
  • You should drink before you eat. Often you think you’re hungry, but a lot of the time it’s water we need. Those who hope to lose weight should drink a glass of water before all meals.
  • After exercise you need aprox one pint of water an hour. It helps when your muscles get stiff and you lose water when you sweat.
  • Always have water when you are at work. Fill a 1 litre bottle with filtered water or buy natural mineral water, Willow Water is very good and has low PH. A one litre bottle will provide you with about four glasses.

If not getting your daily water you can have symptoms like constipation, you can be tired, thirsty, suffer joint problems, and have difficulty concentrating, you can have dry skin, lips and mouth or dry brittle hair, you can also be prone to frequent infections.

If your urine is a dark yellow or have any of the above problems you should drink more. Your urine should be a light, straw coloured yellow. Try drinking the right amount of water for a week see how you feel .
