All of us who work or shop at New Leaf are so excited and supportive of Mairead O’Keeffe owner of New Leaf who has traveled all the way to New Zealand to take part in an ultra marathon. We know how hard she’s worked to get her fitness to this level, overcoming injury, and with huge commitment. She’s only been running races seriously for a year or so which makes this all the more of an achievement. We are so proud of her!
In 2019, the ELEVENTH edition of the RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon will take place on the South Island of New Zealand. The host town will be Queenstown, famous for its adventure sports. The South Island is renowned for its mountains, lakes and glaciers. In the southwest is Fiordland National Park with steep-sided Milford Sound. In the north is Abel Tasman National Park. There are few places in the world where, within the space of one day, you can experience mountain vistas, ancient forests, volcanic landscape and stunning coastline – all while spotting wildlife not found anywhere on earth.
Here’s a general video about the race!
Mairead is in this video which was shot just before they set out on the first marathon. At the end of the first stage Mairead is ranked fourth in the women taking part. What a great start to her adventure.
There’s a few glimpses of Mairéad in this video – she’s number 119 – this is stage 5 so at this point she’s already run over 100 miles in four days – some woman!
